Once we had our Silicone Tall Loaf Mould in stock it was time to play!  I wanted something tall and skinny (definitely on the lean side!) and fresh and clean, and Sage & Lemongrass Fragrance was the perfect fresh, clean scent I wanted for my yellow and green colours.

Ingredients:

*If you already have some Clear Melt & Pour Soap on hand, or some left over green and yellow soap it’s totally fine to use those. My mixed shreds weighed approximately: 100 - 150g

Sage & Lemongrass Melt & Pour Soap Loaf
Layering Overview:

  • Base white layer # 1:   First Pour - 350g Goatsmilk Melt and Pour Soap with 8g/ml Fragrance
  • Thin dark layer # 2:  Second Pour - 100g Clear Melt & Pour Soap with shreds of Lily Pad Green Colour Block
  • Middle Layer # 3:  Third Pour - Shredded green and yellow Melt and Pour Soap plus 300g Goatsmilk Melt and Pour Soap with 8g/ml Fragrance
  • Thin dark layer # 4:  Fourth Pour - 100g Clear Melt & Pour Soap with 2 drops Lily Pad Green Colour Block
  • Top layer # 5:  Fifth Pour - 350g Goatsmilk Melt and Pour Soap with 8g/ml Fragrance

All layers of soap were poured at 63°C  and left to set for 10 to 15 minutes or so.  Set up each layer until the surface temperature is around 33 to 36°C or just firm to the touch – it has to be strong enough to hold the next layer in both weight and temperature

Equipment:

2 x 1 litre, 2 x 250ml microwave safe jugs
Spoons and spatulas
Old cheese grater
Thermometer and digital scales - these are fairly important for this project

Method:

Base white layer # 1:

  • Dice and weigh the five lots of soap – 2 x 350g, 1 x 300g Goatsmilk and 2 x 100g Clear Melt and Pour Soap.  I set aside the 300g portion and re-used one of the jugs later.
  • Make a bar of yellow and a bar of green soap using Clear Melt and Pour Soap.
  • Shred the two bars of yellow and green soap using the cheese grater and set aside.
  • Now melt the first 350g Goatsmilk Melt and Pour Soap.
  • Add 8g/ml Sage & Lemongrass Fragrance to the melted soap and stir thoroughly.
  • Pour the first layer of soap into the loaf mould and give a quick spray with Isopropyl Alcohol to remove any surface bubbles.

Thin dark layer # 2:

  • Now melt the first of the Clear Melt and Pour Soap portions for the thin dark layers.
  • Add sufficient colour until you are happy with the depth of colour – if using different amounts, note this down so you can repeat it for the other thin layer.
  • Once coloured, check the base white layer is firm, spritz liberally with alcohol and then carefully and swiftly pour the dark green layer over the back of a spatula, moving along the length of the mould as you pour.  When this is done it should be about 4mm deep, and give it a quick spritz with alcohol to remove any surface bubbles.
  • Allow to set.

Middle Layer # 3:

  • Place the 300g portion of diced soap into the jug you have used previously for white soap and melt it in the microwave in short bursts.
  • Once liquid and around 63°C, stir through 10g/ml Sage & Lemongrass Fragrance into the melted soap.
  • Place the shredded soap into the mould and scatter this evenly over the entire second layer.  Spritz liberally with the alcohol ready for the overpour.
  • Carefully pour the 300g melted soap over the shreds using the spatula, moving swiftly along the length of the mould, spray with alcohol again and then leave to set up.

Thin dark layer # 4:

  • Now repeat with another pour of the previous thin, dark layer of green soap.
  • Spray with alcohol to remove any bubbles.

 Top layer # 5:

  • Melt the remaining 350g Goatsmilk Soap, scent it as previously and after checking the surface of the thin green layer, spray with alcohol, then pour this over the spatula to fill the mould.
  • Spritz with alcohol again, and then if using glitter, sprinkle this over the surface immediately.
  • Leave to set up for several hours or overnight (cover if you are working in damp conditions).

  • Slice the soap using either a Crinkle Cutter or Heavy Duty Cutter Blade or sharp thin knife.
  • Wrap and store as usual.
