Description

Details

This delicious soap has been poured into our Wooden Log Mould in two layers, with the scent only in the base so that when the Turkish Mocha fragrance discolours the soap, the top layer of the bar is left creamy in colour, like the froth on a cup of Cappuccino or Mocha Coffee.

The Turkish Mocha fragrance will turn the Soap a lovely ebony brown colour, but you can also add some grated Chocolate and/or Cocoa Powder to add a real touch of chocolate if desired.

The one we made is uncoloured and has 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds stirred through the base as a mild exfoliant. The addition of some Coffee Grounds from a percolator, or Coffee Machine is a great exfoliant to try, or perhaps some Oatmeal. Coffee also helps neutralise the smell of onions on the hands after chopping them. You can of course omit the exfoliant, and just leave this as a smooth and silky bar without added texture. I like to cut my logs with our Crinkle Cutter for a great looking slice of soap!

You will need some extra bits and pieces ready to hand:

2 x 1 litre jugs
2 x spatulas
1 x plastic serving spoon
Your regular soaping equipment

Method:

For how to make soap from Scratch, please see our basic Cold Process Soapmaking Instructions Page

To Make this design:

  • Have the lined log mould ready to go, or if using Flexible Silicone Mould no lining is necessary

  • Have all equipment and additives ready to go

  • Follow usual soap making instructions

  • When the soap is at light trace, take 1 cup of thinly traced soap and pour into the container with the coffee grounds or oatmeal.  Give a quick, but careful whizz with the stick blender to moisten the ingredients and remove any dry pockets or lumps

  • Now take the second spare jug and place on the scales.  Weigh 1/3 of the batch (350g) of  thinly traced soap and set aside

  • Add the coffee grounds/oatmeal soap batter back into the main soap pot and give a quick stir to combine

  • Add the Turkish Mocha fragrance and stir well through the soap, the batter should be at medium trace

  • Now pour this into the log mould

  • ItÂ’'s time to give some attention to the top layer while the base layer sets up.

  • Add the hydrated Titanium Dioxide and mix through the soap with the stick blender to bring to medium trace

  • Check the soap already poured into the mould and it should be starting to firm up (if not wait a little longer)

  • Take a mixing spoon and turn it upside down and carefully pour the white soap over the surface of the base layer and allow to have a little *fluffiness* which you can create by a deft hand and a spatula

  • Give a light sprinkle with Chocolate Jojoba Beads and give a spritz with Isopropyl Alcohol to keep ash at bay

  • Insulate through gel and then unmould when soap returns to room temperature
