Neopolitan Ice Cream Melt & Pour Soap Loaf

Making my summer Gelati products recently had my brain moving swiftly to more summery foody items, and that coupled with a recent winter Cold Processed project Bramble Berry made, reminded me of Neopolitan Icecream and Trio (I hope you are old enough to remember when you could buy icecream in bricks?? If not, well, then I'll just say, I read about it “somewhere”!

So I’ve made a “Neopolitan” – the traditional Strawberry, Vanilla and Chocolate, and the other I have made previously was the “Trio” – Peach, Vanilla and Lime – yum! The Trio (not pictured) has Lime Distilled Essential Oil, White Peach Fragrance, and Warm Vanilla Sugar Fragrances.

This project is a great one if you are a beginner and have never layered Melt & Pour Soap before, or if you want an attractive, summery Melt & Pour project.

We've made life easy by using our Silicone Loaf Mould, so the measurements are perfect for that mould! If you want squares, rather than a loaf choose this Small Square Silicone Slab Mould. A Thermometer is useful, but not essential

To make one Loaf, which cuts into between 9 and 12 slices, you'll need:

Equipment

Stirring spoons or spatulas
3 microwave safe jugs - each needs to hold 750ml
Electronic Scales to ensure you have even layers

Method:

  • Set out the ingredients, equipment and mould, ready to go

  • Dice the soap base into small ice cube sized chunks, weight into three lots of 470g and place in the microwave jugs

Bramble Berry Fragrances

  • Now lightly cover the first jug of Melt & Pour Soap cubes, and put in the microwave to melt on medium or medium low. This will take a few minutes, so do keep an eye on it so it doesn't overheat

  • Remove the liquid Melt & Pour Soap from the microwave, and use approximately 12 - 15 drops of Tomato Red Colour and stir well through the soap. You may need a little more or less colour to achieve your perfect strawberry pink

  • Now add 5 - 10g/ml of fragrance, I used 8g Strawberry Fragrance and stir well to combine

  • Carefully pour into the mould (the soap should not be hotter than 60°C)

  • Spritz with alcohol to remove any residual bubbles and allow to set up

  • Now lightly cover the second jug of Melt & Pour Soap cubes, and put in the microwave to melt on medium or medium low. This will take a few minutes, so do keep an eye on it so it doesn't overheat

  • Now add 8g/ml Vanilla Colour Stabiliser and 8g/ml Warm Vanilla Sugar fragrance, stir well to combine

  • Gently touch the surface of the soap to check it is firm enough to pour the new layer over the top

  • Spritz the surface of the soap with alcohol to allow this layer to stick

  • Carefully pour into the mould over the first layer (the soap should not be hotter than 60°C)

  • Allow several hours or overnight to set up completely

  • Unmould by pulling the sides from the long, silicone mould to release the air lock, and push thumbs along the base and soap loaf will slowly fall down onto the bench
