Nourishing Lip Salve with Cera Bellina

This is an anhydrous lip butter that uses Cera Bellina and our Butter Easy (Sunflower Wax) to create a smooth, but firm consistency. It also features our petro-free Castorlene, so it is especially good for dry and wind chapped lips.

We have used our Baby Mushroom Jars but you can also use our larger Mini Mushroom Jars or any other Lip Pots.  This formula is not suitable to use in wind up stick containers such as Lip Tubes.

I used a little Lip Smacking Sweetener not to make a super sweet salve, but to take the oily taste away - you can adjust this to suit your own taste.

Equipment you'll need:

1 Pyrex or microwave safe jug - 250 - 500ml size
Spoon to stir
Spatula etc

  • Weigh the Butter Easy and Cera Bellina into a microwave safe jug and heat until nearly liquid - the temperature will be approximately 63 - 73°C (this is the melt point of Cera Bellina)
  • Remove the jug from the microwave, and add the Mango Butter, Castorlene and Macadamia Oil and stir. The mixture will look a little "thready"
  • Re-heat in the microwave until the mixture has completely liquified again, then stir

  • Check the temperature and when this drops to around 55°C add the Vitamin E and Lip Smacking Sweetener
  • Stir to ensure the mixture is well combined
  • You can pour now, or wait until it's a little cooler (approximately 45 - 50°C which will help avoid "divots" in the middle of the pots as the salve sets
  • If the mixture gets a little too thick as you are pouring, give it a few seconds in the microwave, stir and then it is ready to pour again
  • Place into the fridge to cool quickly. Allow to sit at room temperature for 5 minutes before placing the seals and lids on the jars
  • You can of course test it immediately!
