 Colloidal Oatmeal Bath Soak

Colloidal Oatmeal can be added directly into warm bath water where will disperse and may be helpful for itchy or dry skin.  It is often recommended for itchy or irritated skin and after sun exposure.  How does it work?  The particles are too small to sink to the bottom, and too big to dissolve, so the "colloid" action means they sit in suspension with the particles dispersed throughout the water.  When you bathe or soak in the water, the dispersed Colloidal Oatmeal feels silky against your skin, noticeably different to a regular bath, and many people find this helps.  Take when when stepping out of the bath in case the bath is more slippery than you are used to.

1.  Run a warm bath (not too hot)
2.  Add ½ to ¾ cup Colloidal Oatmeal
3.  If desired you can also add ½ cup milk powder of choice
4.  Swish through water to disperse
5.  When drying pat dry, rather than rubbing with a towel

Isn't it just like normal oatmeal?   No, the particle size is tiny (3% or less is over 150 microns in diameter and 20% is over 75 microns).  Colloidal Oatmeal complies to USP specification and regulation for optimal dispersion and film forming across the skin.  There is also a little more chemistry info such as it's lack of charge and it's substantivity (regular oatmeal is cationic (positively) charged.

The way Colloidal Oatmeal is processed gives it a cationic (positive) charge with a fine, regular particle size making it substantive;  which means long lasting skin benefits and moisturisation.  (The USP specification for Colloidal Oatmeal says that only 3% or less is over 150 microns in diameter and only 20% is over 75 microns.  Our Colloidal Oatmeal complies to this regulation) for optimal dispersion and film-forming across the skin.  Regular oatmeal has no charge and as such isn't as substantive to the skin and therefore doesn't have the long-lasting skin benefits.  That is not to say that regular oats and oatmeal are not helpful, they are, this product is more effective due to it's structure.
