Clay - Mediterranean Slate

Clay - Mediterranean Slate

Availability: In stock

Our Slate Mediterranean Clay is a dark grey-ish colour like slate, and has a high mineral content.   This clay is a great way to add all natural colour to your soap (though this clay can be a little "spotty" in Melt and Pour Soap), as well as using it in scrubs, masks and mud packs.  Our clays do not contain any synthetic dyes or pigments and are not processed using any chemical means.

Active clays are rich in minerals and trace elements and offer a wide variety of applications in cosmetics and treatments and all clays help to remove toxins and purify the skin.

All our clays are totally natural and can be used alone, or blended together, and you can create gorgeous, naturally coloured soaps using a combination of all our clays or just this clay alone.  You can blend any of our clays and colourants together to create a vast pallette of natural and unique colours for your products.

Slate Clay Attributes:

The small particle size gives a high specific surface, thus a high absorption capacity, a very useful property for impure skin.  Mixed with water and directly applied on the skin,

  • Slate Clay is suited for acne prone and combination skin types as it is balancing and anti-acne
  • It stimulates oxygenation and firming of tissues to help prevent aging signals
  • The texture of our Slate Clay is mildly textured/coarse
  • Can be mixed with water and  applied directly onto the skin increasing body temperature and allowing better penetration of active ingredients

Suggested Product Usage Rates:

Spa use: Facial, Body and Capillary masks - In combination with other powders within a formula - between 10 and 30%
Spa use: Facial and Body Muds - In combination with other powders within a formula - between 5 and 25%
Liquid Soaps and Shampoo:  2 - 10%
Soap Spa Bars for deep cleansing:  5 - 20%

To use in regular Soap Bars as a Colourant:

Cold Processed Soap:  1 dessertspoon to 1 tablespoon per kilo of soap (swirling will use less).  Mix into a slurry with some water, Sodium Lactate Plus or thinly traced soap before adding to soap prior to Fragrance or Essential Oils.  Make sure this clay is well hydrated for soap making, it is well suited to spa and exfoliating soaps.

Melt & Pour Soap:  1 teaspoon per 500g of soap base (all types).  Mix the clay to a slurry or paste with some water, Glycerine or Sodium Lactate Plus and gently stir into the melted soap.  In Melt and Pour, hydrate really well and check to see if there is any sediment - best suited to Cold Process and spa and exfoliating soaps.
