How to Make Juicy Citrus Slice Soaps
![]() These can be a little fiddly for some, so a good project when you aren't hurrying. If you can make several at once, it seems to take less time overall to produce the soaps. There are three pours to achieve a realistic Citrus Slice.
Step One: Melt some of the WHITE Melt and Pour in the microwave on short bursts to ensure a thorough melt without boiling. Although this is just the skin, you will be filling the whole mould with this pour. Colour to "lemon skin" colour. Step Two: Once this Soap is set, but still slightly warm carefully take a craft knife and cut away the centre portion, leaving the "skin" 3 mm thick still inside the mould cavity. Clean away the pip area well ready for the seeds. Step Three: SPRITZ INSIDE SKIN WITH ALCOHOL Step Four: Now repeat this process with Cream Coloured Soap - this forms the citrus "Pith" (the white part) and the creamy white seeds. Step Five: Again, once set but still pliable, cut and scoop away the centre of the creamy coloured part - taking care to leave the seeds in place and a line of pith inside the skin. Now you have a two colour "frame" inside the walls of the mould and the pips in the base. Step Six: Time for the final pour, the juicy fruit iteself! Select colour to suit your skin, but use CLEAR soap for this pour. You should use colours that are as transparent as possible, bearing in mind dyes will bleed into the Cream Pith Layer. You can choose Sunflower Yellow and Citrus Orange from our MP Dyes, or Brites for MP, or your own. Don't forget to use some Citrus Fragrance - Essential Oils or Bramble Berry Fragrances such as Lemon Verbena, Pink Grapefruit, Energy etc Step Seven: SPRITZ INSIDE PITH WITH ALCOHOL Step Eight: Carefully over pour the juice soap to fill the mould - take care this isn't too hot or it will melt the pips and edges of the pith. Step Nine: Allow to set completely and then unmould carefully. It is best to take a thin plastic spatula around the inside of the mould to help ease the soap out without separation. TIP: To ensure you don't over colour the "pith" to a very pale cream colour, use a toothpick to add the colour - one whole drop can overcolour a small amount of soap. Yellow Pigment Dispersion is the Colour I use for this.
