Turkish Mocha Cold Processed Soap Log
This delicious soap has been poured into our Wooden Log Mould in two layers, with the scent only in the base so that when the Turkish Mocha Fragrance Discolours, the top layer of the bar is left creamy in colour, like the froth on a cup of Cappucino. The Turkish Mocha Fragrance will turn the Soap a lovely ebony brown colour, but you can also add some grated Chocolate and/or Cocoa Powder to add a real touch of chocolate if desired. The one we made is uncoloured and has 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds stirred through the base as a mild exfoliant. The addition of some Coffee Grounds from a percolator, or Coffee Machine is a great exfoliant to try, or perhaps some Oatmeal. Coffee also helps neutralise the smell of onions on the hands after chopping them. You can of course omit the exfoliant, and just leave this as a smooth and silky bar without added texture. I like to cut my logs with our Crinkle Cutter for a great looking slice of soap!
You will need some extra bits and pieces ready to hand:
1 x Washed 2 litre Ice cream Container
Method: For how to make soap from Scratch, please see our Basic Cold Process Soapmaking Instructions Page To Make this Recipe:
2. Have an empty, washed Ice cream container ready for the White Top of the Soap (if using dry oatmeal or coffee grounds, you will need another to place the Oatmeal/Coffee (if using) 3. Follow usual Soap making instructions 4. When the Soap is at light trace, take 1 cup of thinly traced soap and pour into the Cocoa/Coffee/Oatmeal Container. Give a quick, but careful whizz with the stick blender to moisten the ingredients and remove any dry pockets and lumps 5. Now take the second empty Ice cream Container and place on the scales. Weigh 1/3 of the batch (350g) thinly traced soap and set aside 6. Re-introduce the coffee/cocoa into the main soap pot and give a quick stir to combine 7. Add the Turkish Mocha and combine well into the traced soap 8. Now pour this into the log mould 9. Its time to give some attention to the top layer. If you wish to lighten the top, take some moistened Titanium Dioxide (about ¼ tsp) and blend through the soap bringing to medium trace. THEN TURN OFF THE BLENDER. You will only stir manually from now 10. Check the soap already poured into the mould and it should by now be starting to firm up (if not wait a little longer) 11. Take a mixing spoon and turn it upside down and carefully pour the White Soap over the surface of the Coffee/Chocolate Soap and allow to have a little *fluffiness* which you can create by a deft hand and a spatula 12. Allow to begin heating and youll notice the top of the soap get really firm. 13. Now is the time to cover and then insulate through gel and then unmould when soap returns to room temperature 14. Give a light sprinkle with Cocoa Powder and its done!
