Rice Bran, Buttermilk and Shea Recipe

As you will be mixing the sodium hydroxide in less water than normal, for your own safety PLEASE WEAR GLOVES AND GOGGLES. This recipe calls for a TOTAL of 470 mls of Liquid we have divided this amount up as you can see Water for the Caustic Soda (Lye), Water for the Buttermilk and Pureed Cucumber. This recipe suits our Wooden Log Moulds or a Nizzy 12 bar Mould

300g Coconut Oil
500g Olive Oil
300g Palm Oil
100g Rice Bran Oil
50g Shea Butter
176g Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda)
220g Distilled Water - (To mix with Sodium Hydroxide)
100g Pureed Cucumber - (To be added to Sodium Hydroxide when cool)
3 tablespoons of Buttermilk Powder
150g of Hot Distilled Water - (Use to mix with the Buttermilk Powder and set aside to add at trace
25g/ml Cucumber or Lettuce or Sweetgrass Fragrant Oil. (We chose Cucumber for this recipe). Or you might like to choose 25g/ml Essential Oils instead. For example:
- 2 teaspoons Lime Essential Oil
- ½ tsp Clove Essential Oil
- 4 teaspoons Valencia Orange Essential Oil

To Make this Recipe:

Mix the Caustic Soda and 220g of Distilled Water and set aside to cool
Mix the Buttermilk Powder and 150g HOT Distilled Water and set aside. I give this a blast with my stick blender to make sure it is well dissolved
Measure the Oils
Puree and measure the slushy Cucumber and skin, seeds and all and
When the Lye Water is at approximately 35 deg C carefully stir in the Cucumber Puree
Now combine with melted oils and bring to trace as normal
At medium Trace, add the Buttermilk mixture and blend in
Then add Fragrance or Essential Oils if you choose to use these, and blend to combine
Pour into the Mould!
Cover and insulate as usual

We have left this batch uncoloured as this gorgeous silky smooth soap is fabulous absolutely naked!
