Demarah’s Butter Cream Foaming Scrubs

Thanks to Demarah for generously sharing her process of formulating these phenomenal recipes for Foaming Scrubs.

Demarah was after a thicker, whipped-cream-y, foaming scrub – so the experiments began. The V2 and V2a refers to her cataloguing of the number of trial batches, I have left these on her formulas, as this is part of her process of perfecting her scrubs.

We have suggested a weight of 400g, therefore the sugar portion is also 400g. This can of course be adjusted to suit your personal taste and requirements.

Buttercream v2
(A fluffier, scrubbier, and more conditioning Cream!)

12g Emulsifying Wax NF (3%)
20g Conditioning Emulsifer (5%)
8g Stearic Acid (2%)
96g Cocoa Butter (24%)
32g Shea Butter (8%)
60g Organic Virgin Coconut Oil (15%)
100g Virgin Olive Oil (25%)
60g SLSA (15%)
4g Phenoserve (1%)
8g Fragrance or Essential Oils of choice (2%)
= 400g
400g White Sugar

Method:

Melt E Wax NF, Conditioning Emulsifier, Stearic Acid and Cocoa Butter

Stir in Shea and Virgin Coconut Oil until melted

GENTLY fold in SLSA (wear a mask; as SLSA is dusty and tastes AWFUL)

Let cool until it looks very thick

Stir in Olive Oil, Phenoserve and Fragrance or Essential Oils

Whip until fluffy – using electric beaters

Stir in sugar

Whip again until you get desired texture

Buttercream v2a (made with a liquid surfactant instead of SLSa)

20g Emulsifying Wax NF (5%)
8g Stearic Acid (2%)
96g Cocoa Butter (24%)
32g Shea Butter (8%)
132g Extra Virgin Coconut Oil (33%)
100g Liquid Surfactant (25%) - Demarah used a Polyglucose blend – we suggest you try our PBS Blend or Polyglucose
4g Phenoserve (1%)
8g Fragrance or Essential Oils of choice (2%)
= 400g
400g White Sugar

Method:

Melt E Wax NF, Stearic Acid and Cocoa Butter

Stir in Shea and Virgin Coconut Oil until melted

Let cool until it looks very thick

Stir in liquid surfactant (PBS or Polyglucose)

Blend together well

Stir in Phenoserve and Fragrance or Essential Oils

Whip until fluffy

Stir in sugar; the texture is more gelatinous than whipped cream; much more suited to a malibu tube than a jar

This is less creamy, more gentle on the skin, and makes more bubbles. Without the sugar, it would be nice as a foaming body butter (without the sugar added it's much more butter-y!)

There are incompatibilities between Non ionic surfactants such as the Polysorbates and PEG groups and Paraben preservatives. This means they may de-activate the protection these preservatives give. Alternatively, use Optiphen Plus or Liquid Germall Plus
