Lip Gloss (Liquid) - for Roller Ball Lip Balm Tube
34ml Jojoba
10ml Castor Oil
5ml Glycerine
1ml Vitamin E
12 drops Evening Primrose Oil
Optional
12 drops Flavour Oil or to taste
1/6 teaspoon shimmering Lip Safe Mica
You only need a small amount of mica to get a nice shimmer, too much may clog the roller ball.
- Measure all your ingredients and add to a jug with a pourable lip
- Stir well to thoroughly combine the ingredients
- Add optional flavour and stir well to thoroughly combine
- Add optional Mica and again stir well to thoroughly combine. A heavy Glitter Mica may settle to the bottom so use a lighter Mica so that it suspends well throughout the mixture. It also means there is less chance of it clogging up the roller ball.
- If the roller ball applicator does clog up, undo the applicator and rinse it in warm water until it moves freely again.
Colour Lipsticks
I have been wanting to make my own coloured lipsticks for ages. I have tried a few times with limited success and I realised it was because I was only using a Mica to get colour when I actually needed to use an FD & C for the Colour and just add Mica for shimmer/shine. A lot of lipstick recipes on the Internet have hard to get chemical ingredients in them. I didn't want to go down that path. So the following is the result!
10ml Castor Oil
5ml Jojoba
1/2 teaspoon White Beeswax
1/2 teaspoon Macadamia Wax
1ml Vitamin E
12 drops Evening Primrose Oil
3 drops Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (optional)
1g Lip Colour of choice (Watermelon Red, Sunflower Yellow etc - single colour or blended)
1g Mica of choice
- Measure and mix together the castor and jojoba oils and stir well to thoroughly combine
- Add the Colour/s to the Jojoba and Castor Oil and again stir well to thoroughly combine
- Add the Beeswax and Macadamia Wax to the mixture and over a low heat on the stove top, heat the ingredients until the waxes melt (It is best to do this slowly so it doesn't burn the oils and leave a funny taste)
- Remove from the heat and continue stirring the mixture to ensure that it is combined well
- As the mixture cools slightly (but is still liquid) add the Vitamin E, Evening Primrose Oil and (optional) Rosemary Oleoresin Extract, then mix well to thoroughly combine
- Pour into Lip Balm Tubes or Pots and allow to set
Once set if you decide you don't like the colour it is easy enough to melt the mixture and add more Colour or Mica until you get the desired effect.
You may want to play with the powdered FD & C's until you decide what blend you want. Just get a little on the end of a cotton bud and smear it on to the back of your hand until you think you have the blend you like. Take notes so you can replicate the blend later on.
