Fun Bath Meringues!

Bath Meringues

These are Great Fun!! Our Bath Meringues are a cross between a Bath Melt, a Bubble Bar and a Butterball Bath Bomb. They don't have the Bubbles of the Bubble Bar, but are made in a similiar way, and contain Cocoa Butter like a Bath Melt, but are more like a Bath Bombs in the bath! Confused? Don't be!

Before you start, it is a good idea to decide what "style" of Meringue to make! If you have a look at our photograph, you'll see three stages of Meringues. The Orange and Yellow Meringues are made from Recipe 1, and show a full Meringue and a broken Meringue to show the texture. The finish comes from how you let them expand immediately after adding the last of the liquid. If you want the "cracked" look, you can slightly heat them in the microwave (or with a hair dryer), and then put them into the freezer immediately to stop the reaction. The other way (the Yellow ones) is to add a tiny bit more Coco Betaine which makes the reaction quite evident immediately. The Pink Meringues are smoother and heavier in texture, and more like a bun, and are made from Recipe 2. My personal preference is for Recipe 1, but its fun to experiment with both!

TIP: Because these are mixed with your hands, you may wish to wear vinyl or latex gloves to mix as the coloured dyes will stain your hands for a short while.

The Orange Meringue (scented with Mango Mango! fragrance, and coloured with Water Soluble Orange Colour.

The Yellow Meringue (scented with Pineapple Cilantro fragrance, and coloured with Water Soluble Yellow Colour.

The Pink Meringue (scented with Sun Ripened Raspberry fragrance, and coloured with Water Soluble PinkColour and a smidge Water Soluble Yellow Colour.

Each recipe makes 3 meringues.

Bath Meringues 1

This recipe uses Surfactants to create some flash Foam and make the bath water quite moisturising.

1 cup Bicarbonate of Soda
1/2 cup Citric Acid
A Small Smidge Liquid Colour - its best to use Dispersions or Water Soluble Colour
2 Teaspoons Glyceryl Cocoate
20 drops Fragrant Oil of Choice
20g Cocoa Butter (Melted)
2 Teaspoons Coco Betaine
Large Muffin Papers (from the Supermarket) and a Muffin Tray to set the shape of the Meringues

Method

1. Sift or Sieve dry ingredients into a mixing bowl
2. Mix well until the powder looks a very pale, even shade of your chosen colour
3. If the colour is very evident at this point, you have too much colour in there!
4. Now add the Glyceryl Cocoate and mix with hands until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs
5. Next add the Fragrant Oil or Essential Oil mix with hands until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs
6. Add the melted Cocoa Butter and mix with hands until the mixture starts to hold together when squeezed
7. The colour will now be much darker, and now for the final stage - and you'll need to move fast!
8. Add the Coco Betaine and mix QUICKLY. The mixture will start to expand before you eyes!
9. Place Meringues into the patty pan papers in the tray
10. Now to decide (as above) whether you will heat, or just allow them to expand naturally
11. When hard and set, arrange in an airtight container or Jar for display or gift giving

To Use: Run a bath and crumble into the water!

Bath Meringues 2

This recipe uses Organic Liquid Castille Soap, so you will have very little foam, and still makes the bath water silky.

1 cup Bicarbonate of Soda
1/2 Citric Acid
A Small Smidge Liquid Colour
20 drops Fragrant Oil of Choice
20g Cocoa Butter Melted
2 - 3 Teaspoons Liquid Castille Soap
Large Muffin Papers (from the Supermarket) and a Muffin Tray to set the shape of the Meringues

Method

1. Sift or Sieve dry ingredients into a mixing bowl
2. Mix well until the powder looks a very pale, even shade of your chosen colour
3. If the colour is very evident at this point, you have too much colour in there!
4. Add the melted Cocoa Butter and mix with hands until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs
5. Next add the Fragrant Oil or Essential Oil mix with hands until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs
6. The colour will now be much darker, and now for the final stage
7. Add the Liquid Castille Soap and mix QUICKLY, and lightly knead and form into three medium bun sized balls
8. Place Meringues into the patty pan papers in the tray
9. When hard and set, arrange in an airtight container or Jar for display or gift giving
